TMJ CareMy intent for helping people with temporomandibular (TMJ) pain is two-fold:
- Massage Therapy for overall stress reduction
- Focus on muscle and fascia that affect the mechanical function of the jaw, neck, head and shoulders.
FibromyalgiaFor those of you living with the debilitating chronic pain of Fibromyalgia, massage therapy can help with pain reduction by calming down overactive pain receptors (nociceptors), reducing anxiety, and improving sleep. Clients on a regular massage schedule have reported needing to take less pain medication. I have purposely omitted the inclusion of Fibromyalgia under Deep Tissue Massage because Fibromyalgia clients need a more soothing approach to therapy, especially during a flare up. My hands-on experience with clients in chronic pain from TMJ and Fibromyalgia has shown that they respond better to massage therapies that are less physically demanding.
