As long as I can remember, I have been drawn to the aroma of essential oils. There is such goodness in every sniff
. To enhance my personal and professional knowledge, I enrolled in a professional Aromatherapy 100-hour certification program…and I’m so glad I did!
One of the most important things I learned is how to use essential oils SAFELY! Like every practice in the healing profession, there are always contraindications. There are certain oils
that should never be used on children, the elderly, people whose health is seriously compromised and those who are pregnant. A certified Aromatherapist knows the complexity involved in using essential oils

What is Aromatherapy
French chemist Rene Maurice Gattefosse described it as “the use of pure plant-derived essential oils” in maintaining or regulating the well-being of the body, mind, and spirit. The key word here is pure plant derived!
Buyer beware – don’t be fooled! There are companies who adulterate their oils with synthetics and use plants exposed to pesticides that pose unknown dangers. I purchase my oils from a company that does not hesitate to share the analysis report of each essential oil with me. You may find some companies will avoid this and tell you that their oils are 100% pure. My response is, “I would like to see that in writing.” Why is this important? Because you are taking in a product that has a direct effect on your brain, liver, kidneys, spleen, lymph, blood, mood, and all over well-being.
Your Personalized Aromatherapy Session
One of the greatest pleasures in my practice is observing people’s reactions to smelling essential oils during the testing phase of their session. Their reactions are everything from “Oh, I love this- what is this?” to a neutral response like “It’s just ok.” to “Oh no, I don’t like this at all.” Our bodies have an innate ability to know what it needs. When a particular aroma is agreeing with you, it usually means your body holistically needs it. Remember, essential oils affect body, mind, and spirit. Next, we decide what medium is appropriate to use the oil; in a diffuser, in a spritzer, mixed with a carrier oil or added to a Shea butter cream.
